Eric Whitacre (born January 2, 1970, in Reno, Nevada) is a Grammy Award-winning American composer, conductor, and public speaker. Initially dreaming of being a rock star, his life changed profoundly when he joined his college choir and experienced the transformative power of harmonies and dissonance. He is a graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School and his debut album as both composer and conductor, Light & Gold , won a Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance in 2012. Whitacre is also celebrated for his groundbreaking project, which united thousands of singers from around the world via YouTube submissions.
