Touch Typing Software for the Visually Impaired & Blind

restoretools pkg new
restoretools pkg new

Specialised edition developed with advice and guidance from the Thomas Pocklington Trust

Compatible with:

JAWS and other screen readers

Dolphin SuperNova and other magnification software/hardware

Google and other captioning software

Learning to touch type is considered one of the most beneficial skills for visually impaired and blind individuals. This is because it allows them to transfer their thoughts easily and automatically onto a screen. It provides them with an invaluable tool and asset for independent working and communicating.

Learning to touch type at any age can dramatically boost confidence, self-belief and independence. However, teaching learners with visual impairment at an early age can drastically transform their experience whilst at school and in FE/HE. It puts them on a more even standing with their sighted peers and opens doors to new career opportunities.

Achieving muscle memory and automaticity when touch typing increases efficiency and productivity. However, most importantly, it frees the conscious mind to concentrate on planning, composing, processing and editing, greatly improving the quality of the work produced.

Features of KAZ’s VI/Blind Touch Typing Software:
restoretools pkg new

Specialised ‘Preference Screen’ offering a ‘dark mode’ setting and the ability to tailor the course to individuals’ specific needs

Ability to drag/expand the course to the size of your monitor, with no loss of quality

Compatible with screen readers, magnification and captioning software/hardware. However, it is also designed to work stand-alone

KAZ’s proven ‘Accelerated Learning’ teaching method incorporating ‘brain balance’ teaches the skill quickly and easily

Challenge modules cater for users with short term memory and helps develop automaticity and ‘muscle memory’, whilst ingraining spelling

Includes ‘speaking keys’ so learners can hear which key they have typed and spoken instruction with auditory feedback on error keys.

Schools and Business editions include an easy-to-use admin-panel, allowing the upload and monitoring of users in real time. They also allow the upload of problematic/course related vocabulary, allowing users to learn to type and spell simultaneously

The KAZ Course

The KAZ course is a tutorial and is designed to be used independently or with minimum supervision. However, a structured lesson plan is available in Administrators’ admin-panels should they wish to teach the course during lessons.

The course consists of five modules:

Module 1Flying Start - explains how the course works, teaches the home-row keys, correct posture whilst sitting at the keyboard, and explains the meaning, causes, signs, symptoms and preventative measures for Repetitive Strain Injury.

Module 2The Basics - teaches the A-Z keys using KAZ’s five scientifically structured and trademarked phrases.

Module 3Just Do It - offers additional exercises and challenge modules to help develop ‘muscle memory’, automaticity and help ingrain spelling.

Module 4And The Rest - teaches punctuation and the number keys.

Module 5SpeedBuilder - offers daily practice to increase speed and accuracy.

: First, you would need to ensure that RestoreTools is installed on your system. This might involve downloading it from a repository or installing it via a package manager.

If you are working with these diagnostic systems, ensuring your virtual machine environment matches the vintage of the software bundle prevents signature verification mismatches and installation abort loops.

Ensure that your Mac has at least one APFS snapshot. RestoreTools cannot create a recovery package without an existing snapshot. To check:

Operating internal restoration tools carries a high risk of bricking retail hardware due to mismatched boot chains. Retail iDevices utilize strictly controlled production signatures. If a non-prototype device tries to process a custom development kernel via PurpleRestore, the boot verification chain can fail.

Here are some best practices to keep in mind when using the restoretools pkg new command:

If you manage more than ten Macs, you have likely experienced the pain of re-imaging a machine over a slow VPN. The workflow flips that model on its head. Instead of pushing gigabytes of data across the network, you push a lightweight package (<20 MB) that empowers each Mac to be its own recovery server.

When installed, it populates several directories—most notably /usr/local/bin and system application folders—with software that circumvents traditional retail restoration barriers. Key Applications Inside the Package

: A cross-platform open-source tool that can restore or upgrade firmware on iOS devices with features like SHSH fetching and custom firmware support.

Understanding what this file does requires stepping away from consumer software like iTunes or Finder. This package grants low-level firmware access, unlocks development environments, and handles hardware verification utilities. What is RestoreTools.pkg?

As of macOS 14/15, Apple continues to lock down the boot process. However, RestoreTools remains viable because it works within the running OS, leveraging the built-in apfs kernel extensions and snapshot mechanisms. The command is evolving to include support for cryptex (dynamic iOS/macOS system components) and signed system volume (SSV) snapshots.

For preservationists tinkering with older, non-production test units or retro architectures, deploying these applications safely requires a deliberate staging environment.

Automatic restore cycles containing hardcoded safety boundaries.

: Contrary to some myths, the tool cannot bypass iCloud locks or downgrade a device to an unsigned firmware version unless you have the corresponding SHSH blobs or internal permissions.

To move forward effectively, you should first identify the specific software environment you're working with. Ask yourself:

For researchers, mathematicians, and engineers, RestoreTools refers to an entirely different utility: an object-oriented MATLAB package designed for image restoration and deconvolution. Mathematical Image Restoration
