Pain scales incorporating behavioral parameters (e.g., the Glasgow Composite Measure Pain Scale for dogs and cats) have revolutionized post-operative and chronic pain management.

One of the greatest failures of 20th-century veterinary science was the tendency to view animals as four-legged humans with fur. The integration of (the science of animal behavior in natural contexts) corrects this.

Aggressive or fearful animals pose bite risks. Veterinarians must assess behavioral signs of rabies (change in temperament, hypersalivation, ataxia) and other zoonoses. Additionally, dogs with severe behavioral issues are at higher risk of relinquishment or euthanasia, underscoring the veterinarian’s role in behavioral intervention.

In the wild, showing signs of pain or illness makes an animal a target for predators. Consequently, most species have evolved to hide their suffering. A cat suffering from severe osteoarthritis may not limp; instead, it might simply stop jumping onto its favorite window sill or become uncharacteristically aggressive when touched.

  • Great overview of using plugins in Moodle !
I would just add, that when looking at a plugin to use, as well as the functionality and version compatibility, you MUST look at the release cycle, and developer. There is nothing worse that installing a plugin, building your site / course operation around this, to find that when you want to upgrade Moodle you can’t – because that plugin is no longer maintained 🙁
I’ve seen some Universities and other large Moodle installations becoming years out of date because they adopted a plugin that didn’t;t then get upgraded.
And this biggest impact with staying on an old and compatible version of Moodle means missing out on all the new features of Moodle core.
