Born in a village near Cairo in 909 H (1504 M), Ibn Hajar al-Haytami demonstrated extraordinary scholarly promise, beginning to teach and issue fatwas in Egypt by the age of 20. He later moved to the holy city of Makkah, where he spent much of his life and ultimately passed away. He studied under many great scholars of his time, including Shaykh Zakariyya al-Ansari (author of Fath al-Wahhab ) and Imam Shihab al-Din al-Ramli (the father of the author of Nihayatul Muhtaj ).
